The Duck Pond: One of the First Carnival Games for All of Us

It's a Great Game for Kids Because There's Always a Winner
Everyone loves to win when they play a game at the beach or at a carnival that offers prizes. This is probably why the duck pond game is one of the first carnival games that many of us played. It was one of those games you were sure to win a prize in. There really is very little skill in the game. The game has had variations that have spun off of the original duck pond to include games that include fishing games where everyone is guarenteed to win. In the end the prizes in these games are usually on the small side. This is largely in part to the fact that there is absolutely no skill involved in the game. There are some things that you can know about the game though to make you a more informed player.

The duck pond game has progressed quite a bit in the size of prizes they offer. The game has started to mimic other games though in which all the large prizes are displayed prominently. Yet, as many of that have played the game found out later, about 90% of the wins in the game are prizes that aren't even displayed on the shelves of the booth. We've all felt that heartbreak when we were kids and saw the operator reach for a prize that was under the playing area, because we knew it was going to be a little plastic trinket. The question becomes, do they ever give those big prizes away? Honestly, they do, but it's a game of odds. There are probably about 50 ducks in most of these games, and chances are only about 5 are numbered in such a way that a large prize is drawn when they are picked out of the water. With the guarenteed win, this game is generally priced higher than many of the other carnival games, which in the end means the prize you win will most likely be worth less than what you paid to play.

In the end the duck pond is geared towards young children, and of course their ability to get what they want from their parents that control the money. Chances of winning a prize are 100%, but chances of winning a quality prize are lower than in other games at the carnival. In the end though, kids playing this game are most likely going to be happy with whatever prize they win. That's why as parents we will in the end pay for our young children to play this game rejoice along with them when we see that smile on their face as they receive a prize from the operator.
